Mourning the death of H.E. Msgr. El Hachem
He served from 2005 to 2009 as Apostolic Nuncio to Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain
H.E. Msgr. Mounged El Hachem, Titular Archbishop of Darni and Apostolic Nuncio, died today at the age of 88.
He was born on 8th September 1934, in Akoura, Lebanon, to a family of Maronite rite. He worked for several years in the General Affairs Section of the Holy See's Secretariat of State while simultaneously holding the post of Lecturer in Islamic Law at the Pontifical Lateran University. His Holiness Pope John Paul II appointed him Eparch of Baalbek-Deir El Ahmar in 1995, a post he held until 2005. On 27th August 2005, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Apostolic Nuncio to Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. He served in this position until December 2, 2009.
